MJH PTO Meeting

PTO Meeting:  Don't forget about our March PTO meeting this Thursday, 3/21/13, at 8:45 am!  We will discuss remaining events for the Spring as well as recruiting for the 2013-2014 PTO Board to be elected in May.

Spring Pictures

On Thursday, March 21, Spring Pictures will be taken of the students at MJH.  We need 1-2 parent volunteers throughout the day to help the school with the kids during pictures. Please contact Stephanie Hood at mjhptobox@gmail.com if you are able to help any on that day.

MJH UIL Choir

The Montgomery Junior High Choir Department recently competed at the 2013 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest and brought home 2 First Division plaques and 1 “Sweepstakes” trophy.  Under the direction of Alice Lothman, both the Non-Varsity Men and Women’s Choirs competed and received a First Division rating for their work on stage.  The Varsity Women also competed and they received perfect “1” ratings from all judges to earn a "Sweepstakes" trophy.  The “Sweepstakes” trophy is the highest award given to a choir at UIL and it is not easily attained.  All of the MJH Choir students worked extremely hard in preparing for this event and it showed at contest.  The MJH Choir Department is proud to bring back these awards for Montgomery.

Montgomery Junior High hosted our track meet this week at MHS.  The 7th grade team won Team Champion and the 8th grade team received third place.  Good job Bears from all the coaches.

The UIL One Act Play, The Diary of Anne Frank,  advanced this week to the District Level.

All Star Cast Awards:  Sally Johnson and Jack Russell - Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Honorable Mention:  Sam Tucker and Kailey Johnson - Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan
Best Tech: Isabel Chapa
They competed Thursday, Feb 28th at Magnolia High School along with three other schools. They will also be performing on Saturday, March 2nd here in the Black Box 5:00 and 7:00 shows.  Tickets are $5.

Curriculum Fair and Course Selection Guide Presentations

REMINDER:  CURRICULUM FAIR & PARENT INFO MEETING:  MONDAY, FEB 25TH @ 6PM
The Curriculum Fair for current 6th & 7th graders, will be February 25th from 6:00-7:30 at Montgomery Junior High. There will be a Parent Information Meeting from 6:00-6:30 in the large gym that will be especially helpful to incoming 7th parents.  7th Grade students heard the Course Selection Presentations on Feb 20th during 1st period and received their Course Selection Guides & Forms that day.   Please read through the Guide carefully. Many questions can be answered by doing so. Below is a link to our Counselor's Corner website where you will find the Course Selection Presentations and the MJH 2013-2014 Course Selection Guide. Please review each prior to completing your student's form. These completed forms will be due to your student's ELA teacher by Wednesday, February 27th.

Spirit Wear

MJH Spirit Items are still available for you to purchase.  We plan to sell Spirit Wear at the junior high during student lunches on Friday, March 1st, but NEED VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE.  If you are interested at selling Spirit Wear on March 1st  from 10:30am – 12:30pm, we would greatly appreciate your help.  Please email us at mjhptomailbox@gmail.com if you would like to make a purchase or if you’d like to volunteer to sell items.  Spirit Wear will also be available during the Curriculum Fair on Monday night.  The following items available are:

Spring Semester Schedules

The Spring Semester begins on Tuesday, January 22. All students will receive a new copy of their class schedule on that day (even if there are no changes to their schedule for the spring semester). 8th Grade Parent Meeting (current 8th graders)

The 2013-2014 Freshman Parent Meeting (for current 8th grade students) for Course Selection has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 23rd at 6:00pm. The Parent Meeting will be held at the Montgomery High School Auditorium.

What’s Your Reading Catch Phrase?

Put a new spin on a popular slogan, catch phrase, or saying that applies to reading. Create a poster with your Catch Phrase. Be creative! Submit your poster to Mrs. LaBruyere at the MJH Library by Monday, January 28th. All posters will be put on display and the student body will cast their votes for their favorite posters. The Top 5 entries will be submitted to Poll Everywhere where the final vote will be cast. The winner will receive a $25 gift card to a business of their choice and their slogan will be used as the theme in the MJH Library for the 2013-2014 school year. Examples (these are just examples… create one of your own): “Keep Calm and Read On” “Peace, Love, and READ!” Please use a regular poster board (any color). No tri-fold presentation boards or the thick foam poster boards will be accepted. Click here to download the information sheet.

MJH Bears Boys Basketball

This week the 7th & 8th grade boys played basketball in Tomball. Results will be reported next week. Next week the boys will host Willow Wood at MJH on Thursday. The A-team will travel on Friday and Saturday to A&M Consolidated for a tournament and the B-team will travel to Huntsville for a tournament. Good luck Bears!

MJH Lady Bears Girls Basketball

7th grade Lady Bears: Lady Bears 7th grade A-team played with heart last night. We trailed Tomball until the 4th quarter. When push came to shove, Lady Bears shoved ahead to win the game! Great job Lady Bears! Last night, our Lady Bear 7th grade B-team took on the Tomball Lady Cougars. The girls came out strong, scoring 10 points in the first quarter. During the second half, the lady bears turned up the heat on defense and gave up only 3 points. Our Lady Bears played very well as a team and each girl contributed to the final score 21-10! Way to go Lady Bears!!! Keep up the great work! The 7th grade C-team had a great game. Good job Lady Bears!8th grade Lady Bears: The 8th grade Lady Bears Basketball A-team took the court last night against Tomball excited for their first game back after Christmas break. Taking the lead from the beginning and keeping for a final score of 38-17. We had great defense from Bethany Persons, Maggie Page, and Kyndall Linscomb. Awesome team work from Dani St Pe, Narissa Collier, and Marli Lemons. Great ball handling from Logan Szymczack and Megan Tschumperlin. And some great rebounding from Kaci Polk. It was fun to watch you girls play last night! Keep working hard and have a great weekend! The 8th grade Lady Bear B-team fell in a heart breaker last night, 16-17. The game literally went down to the final second. Not once did the girls lay down, and they fought hard until the final buzzer sounded. Good job girls. Good luck next week against Willow Wood. The 8th grade C-team had a great game. Good job Lady Bears!

Teacher Christmas Luncheon & Cookie Walk

MJH PTO hosted the annual Teacher Holiday Luncheon & Cookie Walk on Thursday, December 6th. We appreciate the many fantastic holiday treats that parents sent in and shared with our teachers. A big thank you goes out to Rick Adams at Walden Yacht Club for a delicious meal provided for our Teacher Holiday Luncheon at MJH. Thank you to Teresa Neel for doing a great job coordinating our luncheon and to the volunteers who were there to help on Thursday.

Montgomery Historical Society Cookie Walk

It’s that time of year for the annual Christmas in Montgomery and the Montgomery Historical Society Cookie Walk fundraiser. The 21st annual Cookie Walk and the 35th Candlelight Home Tour will take place on Saturday, December 8th. Breakfast with Santa begins at 8am and the Christmas Parade starts at 11am. The Cookie Walk will open at 12 noon. The Historic Home Tour is from 4-8pm. The parents and students in Montgomery ISD are the event’s biggest supporters. MJH Bears Boys Basketball

7th Grade Basketball: The Montgomery Bears Boys 7th Grade basketball team traveled to Waller this week to face off against the Schultz Bulldogs. The Purple Team set the tone early playing tough defense. The Bears won 17-1. The Gold Team dominated as well, scoring at will. The Bears won 51-19. Good luck to the Gold Team in your tournament this weekend in Huntsville.
8th Grade Basketball: The Montgomery Bears 8th grade Purple Basketball Team defeated Waller Schultz 26-12 this week. Teddy Sherrill led the Bears in scoring with 6 points. Ben Sherrill and Jake Villarrubia netted 5 points each. Drew Smith and Blake Hudgens drained 3 points each. Brandon Serrano and Michael St. Kelly rounded out the scoring for the Bears with 2 points each.  The Montgomery Bears 8th grade Gold Basketball Team defeated Waller Schultz 53-18. Kevon Hill led the Bears in scoring with 10 points. Jeremiah Smith netted 9 points. Mateo Suniga and Adam Sherrill each poured in 8 points. Chad Phillip scored 6 points. Taylor Thomas and Josh Pruett netted 2 points each. Congratulations to both the 8th grade Purple and Gold Teams on their victories from Coach Washington, Payne, and Straughter.

MJH Lady Bears Girls Basketball

7th grade A team: The Lady Bear 7th grade A team played well last night against Waller Schultz. The game was a battle from the beginning but the Lady bears played well to defend their court. The girls fought hard every minute to clench their win! Tonight the 7th grade A team kicks off their home tournament at 5:00pm against Splendora. Come out and support your girls! 
7th grade B-Team: Last night, our lady bear 7th grade B team took the court against Waller Schultz. The girls played hard the entire game, giving up only 8 points. Each girl contributed greatly to the team’s success. The Lady Bear’s finished the game with a 41-8 win! Great job last night girls! 
8th grade A-Team: The Lady Bear 8th grade A team took the court last night against Schultz. Coming out slow in the first quarter and then finally turning it on in the 2nd, we finished with a final score of 47-10. Well done girls, lets continue the momentum into this weekend for our home tournament and get a trophy!
8th grade B-Team: Last night the Lady Bear 8th grade B team dominated Schultz in a 32-1 victory. It was a great defensive performance and the ladies only gave up 1 point due to a free throw. Offensively the ladies started out slow but came out to play and busted the game wide open! Great job and good luck this Tuesday against McCullough Junior High!
8th grade C-Team: Last night the Lady Bear 8th grade C team took down Schultz easily 20-2 with a a strong defense and strong shooting. Great job last night ladies!
