MJH eNews: Week of Sept 20-28

Progress Reports & txConnect
This week student progress reports were mailed home to all MJH families.  Progress Reports and Report Cards will all be mailed to parents via the US Postal Service throughout the school year.  With the progress report, you should have also received a letter about txConnect, an online student information access system.  txConnect allows you online access to keep you informed of your student’s progress throughout the year.  It is also a great way to subscribe to alerts regarding your student’s grades, attendance, and tardies.
To get started, you must go to the txConnect link and register by creating an account.  You will be asked to enter a username & password and also your email address.  The username and password are something you create and that you will need to remember in order to login in the future.  It will then ask you a security question.  Next, you will provide a Student Portal ID and student birthday for any student you wish to add.  The Student Portal ID is printed on the letter that was sent home with progress reports.  Once you have your account set up, it will give you the option of adding any other children.

Lady Bears Volleyball
8th grade Volleyball: This weekend our 8th grade Lady Bear A & B teams traveled to Willis where they dominated the tournament and came home with 2 - 1st place trophies.  The B team's first opponent for the weekend was Mance Park Middle School - the ladies easily took down the hornets 25-15, 25-6.    The next game was not as easy.  In what should have probably been the championship game, the ladies had to crawl their way out of a hole against Irons JH.  Instead of just giving up they pulled together and pushed their way back and downed Irons in a decisive game 3, 15- 13, coming back from a 6-10 deficit.  After facing Irons the ladies were confident and easily handled Waller 25-22 and 25-11and easily defeated tournament hosts Brabham in the championship game 25-23 and 25-19.   Our lady bear 8th grade A team started off their tournament with a Bang! The girls rolled over Huntsville, winning 25-7 & 25-9. The lady bear’s faced Washington Junior high in their second match of the evening. With fearless serving and great defense, they continued to dominate their opponent, winning 25-6 & 25-4! Saturday the Lady Bear’s came out fighting and quickly defeated Brabham JH 25-10 & 25-12. In the championship match against the Waller Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Bears were determined to take home the 1st place trophy! In an easy sweep, the lady bears defeated the Lady Bulldogs 25-8 & 25-14! Come support your Lady Bear’s this Thursday at HOME! Great job this weekend girls!
8th grade played their first district home match against the Magnolia Bulldogs last night.  C-Team opened up the evening taming the bulldogs 25-13 and 25-2 to add another win to their record.  B team faced Magnolia and downed them 25-17 and 25-19.  Our Lady Bear 8th grade A-Team started off their match strong last night, winning the first game 25-12. During the 2nd game, the Lady Bears fell short, 22-25. In the final game, the Lady Bears battled it out but could not clench the win, losing 26-28.  Good luck to the B-Team this Saturday as they play in our home tournament here at the junior high at 9 am!
7th grade Volleyball: Lady Bears 7th grade C-Team did not win the game last night, but they worked hard. We don't dwell on the past.  Continue to work hard Lady Bears!  The B-Team fought hard, but fell, in two 23-25 matches against Magnolia. The A-Team fell to the Magnolia Bulldogs last night.  The girls fought hard and played some good volleyball. The match was between two good volleyball teams!  We are looking forward to playing Tomball next week!

8th Grade Gold:  The 8th Grade Gold B-Team traveled to Brabham MS this week. Hunter Jaeger was clearly the offensive and defensive player of the game for the Bears. lt was a defensive battle all night, but the Bears fell a little short losing t0 Brabham 15-0.  The 8th Grade Gold A-Team also traveled t0 Brabham Middle School last night. The Bears fell behind early in the first half going into halftime behind 6-0. The Bears came out on fire the second half with Alex Nunn scoring from 35 yards out making the score 6-6. The Bears then put 0n an offensive onslaught scoring 16 unanswered points. Austin Pritchett scored on a 45 yard pass from Caleb Campbell, and Brock Nickerson scored on a 50 yard passing strike from Caleb Campbell. Luke Coleman converted 2 out of 3 extra point after attempts, making the final Score 22-6 with the Bears winning the game. Great job Bears from all the coaches.
8th Grade Purple:  The 8th grade Purple B-Team traveled to New Caney to take on the Spartans of White Oak MS Wednesday night. It was a long drive but the Bears were poised and ready to play when they arrived as they received the opening kick-off and Dustin Thomas scooped up the ball and took it 80 yards for the game's first score. The Bears defense took a little while to settle down as the Spartans got the ball on offense and 5 plays later put it in the end zone to make the score 7-6 in favor of the Bears. It would not take long for the Bears to find pay dirt once again as running back Jake Gilmore found a hole in the defense and took it to the house. The Spartans sputtered on offense until the 3rd quarter, when they would take advantage of the Bear defense and punch in another score to make it 14-12. In the 4th quarter the Bears would take advantage of a mishap by the defense and Bears running back Jake Gilmore again scampered  for the touchdown. The Bears played hard all night and it paid off in the end as they held the Spartans late to end the game on top with a score of 20-18. The 8th grade Purple A-Team also traveled to New Caney to take on the Spartans. The first half was a show of power and poise as the Bears came out firing on all cylinders. The Bears offense got the ball first and wasted no time as they marched the ball down the field and Bears running back Trayveon Franklin ran the ball in for the touchdown. The Bears defense was up next as the Spartan offense came out onto the field but they might as well of stayed on the sideline as the defense stuffed them to give it back to the Bears offense. It was not long and Bears QB Jordan Hood found Jody Miller running in the back of the end zone from 30 yards out for the touchdown. The second half was not much different from the first half as the Bears defense would stop the Spartans time after time to finish the night with the shut out on defense to end the game with a score of 13-0. Stand outs for the Bears were the offensive line of Hendrix, Jackson, Williams, Putska, Hancock and Hartis. These guys battled all night to keep the Spartans off the ball carriers and quarterbacks. Great Job fellows. Great job guys from Coach Schramm and Coach Payne.
